Rehearsal Schedule
Our rehearsal schedule will be Mondays through Thursdays between 6:00 and 9:00 for the 7 weeks before performance. During the first 3 weeks we will work in smaller groups and not everyone will have to be there everyday. However, if you have a "Newsies" role, you will need to expect more days of rehearsal. At the first of every week I will communicate the rehearsal schedule to you. I am a stickler for the schedule so what is published will be what will happen.
Performances
We will be performing June 26th, 27th, 28th and 29th. We will for sure perform 4 shows but we do have an option for adding 2 more shows if we need them.
Expectations
My directing style is expecting excellence from actors, dancers and directors! I will expect that you will come to each rehearsal and bring your best and to act professionally.
This means:
1) You are prepared with a pencil at every rehearsal
2). You will immediately begin to memorize your lines and music as soon as you know your character.
3). You will not be disruptive during rehearsal.
4). You will bring water with you and wear comfortable clothes
5). Take notes and memorize instructions so it does not have to be re-taught.
6). You will be at rehearsals.
We are going to have a blast with the musical but it is highly technical and we only have 7 weeks to put it together, which means we are going to move fast and expect you know your lines, choreography, and music after it has been taught.
Who are we looking for?
Singers, Dancers and Actors! Young and Adult!!
Everyone will fit into a place in this musical!
Given that HCA is heavily a professional dance studio we want to highlight the talents of our dancers. This musical features Tap, Acro and highly technical dance moves.
Not a dancer? That is ok! We are highlighting dancers but modifying the dance moves for our non-dancers!

Synopsis
Set in turn-of-the century New York City, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged "newsies." When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what's right!
Based on the 1992 motion picture and inspired by a true story, Newsies features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken (Little Shop of Horrors, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein (Kinky Boots). Featuring the now classic songs “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe,” Newsies is packed with non-stop thrills and a timeless message, perfect for the whole family and every audience.
