Elementary Art With Mrs. D

Students in grades K-5 will practice 2-D and 3-D visual art skills using a variety of materials in lessons inspired by famous artists or movements. Materials will be provided. Students can bring a snack and water bottle.

Middle School/High School Art With Cathie Lynch

Middle school and high school students will hone their visual art skills using a variety of media. Students will work with acrylic painting, ceramics and drawing. Students are encouraged to bring a sketchbook. All other materials are included.

Summer Art for Tweens

4 week sessions

Session 1:  Tuesdays June 7 - 28

Students ages 9-13 will study drawing techniques using a wide variety of materials including drawing pencil, colored pencil, charcoal, and soft and oil pastel.  Projects will have an art history focus and subject matter will include botanical drawing, still life, and portraiture.  July lessons will be different from those taught in July, should students wish to take both sessions.

Saturday Morning Drop-in Art Classes

Must pre-register by the night before!

Drop your kids at the arts center on Saturdays so they can create while you shop or run errands!

A new project will be explored each month, so you will only want to enroll once per month.

Summer Fun Workshops

During these very popular workshops, your kids will

 focus on summer-time arts and crafts.  Dress for outdoors including sun screen and bring a snack! 

This summer themed  workshop will include lots of outdoor activities.  Examples:  Students will gather plants for the nature printing lesson and each student will tie dye their own t shirt. Summer Fun Workshops will include different lessons, so students can sign up for both!


Summer Visual Arts Camps

Art Camp 1:

For kids who love to create bright, happy, colorful art. 

Students will print like Warhol, paint like optical artist Jen Stark, illustrate "fancy animals" like Indie Maverick, color a "happy landscape" like Ted Harrison , and paint a vibrant mountain scene in watercolors like Jen Aryani .

Art Camp 2:

This camp will concentrate on nature , the world around us, and how it inspires us as artist. We will use a variety of mixed medias to create different art projects. 

These lessons are not taught in Camp 1 so students can sign up for both!

Animal Art Workshop

at Killbuck Valley Museum

Tuesdays, June 21 and 28

10-11:30 AM 

Students will create realistic drawings inspired by the work of John James Audubon (American Ornithologist, naturalist, and painter 1785-1851) and Albrecht Durer (German painter and printmaker, 1471-1528.   Students will also study how imaginary, mythical or legendary creatures have been part of human culture throughout the ages, inhabiting the mythology and folklore of civilizations from all around the world.  Students will study the imaginary animal drawings of Albrecht Durer, Max Ernst (German, 1891-1976), and others and create their own mythical creature by drawing from parts of various animals.

$30 for both classes/$15 for one class

Students will learn their way around the clay studio through projects that teach handbuilding and wheel throwing techniques. Students should plan to wear old clothes for this class, ceramics can be messy.

Watercolor Workshop

Adults and Teens

Line and Wash Watercolor:

Explore a drawing and painting technique using ink lines and watercolor washes.  In this workshop, participants will be introduced to techniques, create small paintings, and begin a larger composition of their choosing.  Participants can bring photos and ideas to use in a composition, or be inspired by something at the workshop.  Materials will be provided, although participants are welcome to bring their own supplies.  


Tacky Sweater Workshop

Tacky sweater workshop

It's Christmas in July! In this 1 1/2 hour workshop, participants will turn their own old/thrifted sweater into a creatively tacky work of holiday art. Bring your own sweater, all other supplies and materials will be provided (including glitter).

An introduction to a folk art form practiced by Pennsylvania Germans principally from the mid-eighteenth to the mid-nineteenth centuries.

Ceramics Coffee Set

Tuesdays in July

This class is beginner friendly and appropriate for students ages 13 and up. Each week’s main project will feature a component of a coffee set. Sugar bowl and spoon, spoon rests, and a mug or small cream pitcher. Techniques will include pinch, slab, coil, underglaze and glaze. We will be making functional clay pieces with hot beverages in mind, but you may find other uses for the projects we make. 

Week 1. Project: Pinch pot sugar bowl and spoon or stir stick

Week 2. Project: Slab spoon rests/set of small trays. Underglaze application and texture work on sugar bowls and slab work.

Week 3. Project: Coil mug or cream pitcher 

Week 4. Project: Complete and underglaze coil pot, apply glaze to bisqueware. Coil pots will be fired after class. Teacher will clear glaze. All projects will be glaze fired and can be picked up at a later date.
